The NCMA contract management body of knowledge has been in existence since at least 1985. However, the first formal publication of the NCMA Contract Management Body of Knowledge (CMBOK) was published seventeen years later in 2002. Since then, the CMBOK, now in its 7th edition, has been adopted by government agencies (both state and federal), private companies, and academia. But how is the CMBOK being adopted? How can it be adopted? Where does the CMBOK fit in developing organizational training and formal education programs? This webinar will discuss how the CMBOK can be used in training and formal education curricula. The specific focus will be on how the CMBOK can be used to bridge the gap between the academic theories that inform contract management principles and the application of those principles by the contracting workforce.

Dr. Rene G. Rendon, CFCM, CPCM, PMP, CPSM, Associate Professor at the U.S. Naval Postgraduate School

Dr. Rene G. Rendon, CFCM, CPCM, PMP, CPSM, is an associate professor at the U.S. Naval Postgraduate School where he teaches in the MBA in Contract Management and Master of Science in Contract Management degree programs. Prior to his appointment at the Naval Postgraduate School, he retired from the United States Air Force after more than twenty-two years as an acquisition contracting officer. Rene is a former member of the NCMA Board of Directors, currently serves as the Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Contract Management. He has received the prestigious NCMA Fellow Award, and he was recognized with the United States Air Force Outstanding Officer in Contracting Award. He has also received the NCMA National Education Award, the NCMA Outstanding Fellow Award, NCMA Award for Most Outstanding Article in Contract Management, NCMA Award for Excellence in Contract Management Research and Writing, and the Naval Postgraduate School Richard W. Hamming Teaching Award. Dr. Rendon’s publications include Management of Defense Acquisition Projects, 2nd Ed. (2019), U. S. Military Program Management: Lessons Learned & Best Practices (2007), and Contract Management Organizational Assessment Tools (2005). He has also published scholarly articles in the Journal of Public Procurement, the Journal of Contract Management, the Journal of Purchasing & Supply Management, and the International Journal of Procurement Management. He is a frequent speaker at universities and professional conferences and provides consulting to government and industry.
